Two bank officials held for Rs 1.2 cr fraud in Ropar

The Vigilance Bureau (VB) today arrested two officers of the Central Cooperative Bank, Ropar, for allegedly committing a fraud of Rs 1.24 crore.

Panchayat Secy booked for graft

Chandigarh: The VB has booked Panchayat Secretary Tejpal Singh, posted in the office of the BDPO, Moga, for allegedly taking bribe. Sandeep Singh of Moga alleged that he had submitted an application to the DDPO, Moga, requesting for the reconstruction of a street in his village. The Panchayat Secretary allegedly demanded Rs 5,000 for the work. TNS

The accused have been identified as assistant manager Bikramjit Singh and senior manager Ashok Singh Mann.

A case under the IPC and Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered at the VB police station, Ludhiana.

A VB spokesperson said that during the investigation, Bikramjit was found to have misappropriated money by allegedly misusing account IDs, passwords and details of senior manager Mann and that of other employees during his posting in the bank from 2011 to 2016.

He alleged that Bikramjit transferred the embezzled money to the accounts of his family members. He was held guilty in an internal investigation by the bank two years ago.

During the probe, it was also found that Bikramjit had used the passwords and account IDs of Mann, who never complained to the bank or the higher authorities.
