Tribunal upholds order on permit cancellation

Terming it a vindication of the state government stand against “illegal” extensions of route permits, Punjab Transport Minister Amrinder Singh Raja Warring on Wednesday said the State Transport Appellate Tribunal (STAT) order passed today had exposed those who had plundered Punjab for their personal gains.

The minister said the STAT had put its stamp on the Transport Department action against as many as 806 permits which were cancelled for running illegally, including those of Jujhar Transport.

In a significant decision, the STAT on Wednesday upheld the Transport Department order cancelling the extension of the original permits beyond 24 km to a large number of transporters in the state in line with the Justice Surya Kant judgment. No one would be allowed to play with the state revenue at any cost, Warring said. — TNS
