Faridkot, February 16

Pardeep Kaler, a key accused in the 2015 sacrilege cases, who was arrested on February 10 from Gurugram, was taken to Chandigarh on transit remand today.

Earlier, Kaler was in the custody of the Faridkot police. The court had sent him to six-day remand for questioning in three cases in which he was declared a proclaimed offender (PO).

In February 2023, the Supreme Court had transferred the trial against Dera Sacha Sauda head Gurmeet Ram Rahim and his seven followers in three inter-linked cases of Bargari sacrilege from a court in Faridkot to Chandigarh. After producing him before the Chandigarh court, the police have got his four-day remand in one of the three sacrilege cases.

This case pertains to the theft of Guru Granth Sahib from a gurdwara at Burj Jawahar Singh Wala village on June 1, 2015. Two other cases relate to pasting of posters with derogatory remarks against the Sikh religion and Gurus on September 25, 2015, at a gurdwara in Burj Jawahar Singh Wala and Bargari and incident of October 12, 2015, when torn pages of Guru Granth Sahib were found outside a gurdwara at Bargari village.
