Amritsar, November 24

The Railways has suspended the departure of all trains from the Amritsar railway station whose schedule was issued earlier. It has also announced cancellation of all trains except two pairs of mail express trains due to hassles posed in operations by activists of the Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee. Members of the committee refused to lift the blockade on the main Amritsar-Delhi railway line at the Jandiala Guru railway station today.

Rajesh Aggarwal, Divisional Railway Manager, said only 02903/04 Mumbai Central-Amritsar-Mumbai Central Golden Temple Mail, 04649/50 Saryu Jamuna Express and 04673/74 Shaheed Express would be operated from the Amritsar railway station.

The Railways announced the departure of three trains, namely 02716 Sachkhand Express, 02926 Paschim Express and 09026 Amritsar-Bandra Terminus, from the Amritsar railway station tomorrow as these trains had already chugged in at the local railway station via detour from Tarn Taran.

Meanwhile, the already announced departure of three trains, namely 02030 Amritsar-New Delhi Shatabdi, 02054 Amritsar-Haridwar Janshatabdi and 05212 Amritsar-Saharsa Jansewa from tomorrow stands cancelled. The trains will remain suspended till the lifting of the agitation by the farm organisation.

Stalled for over two months, train services resumed from the Amritsar railway station today as a couple of trains arrived via alternative Beas and Tarn Taran routes to reach Amritsar. Freight trains were allowed to cross as many of them were carrying urea.

However, the main Amritsar-Delhi railway line remained paralysed near Jandiala Guru as activists of the committee squatted on the line at 3 am which necessitated diversion of 02903 Mumbai Central-Amritsar Golden Temple Mail. It arrived over three hours behind the schedule.
