Chandigarh, January 15

The Tourism Department has decided to postpone its Rangla Punjab Tourism Summit, earlier announced to be held in Amritsar from January 18-24.

Cabinet Minister Anmol Gagan Maan and four officials will be heading to Madrid to participate in the International Tourism Trade Fair (FITUR) from January 24-28.

As per sources, the department team will leave on January 23 and be back on January 29. The Rangla Punjab Summit, which is a flagship programme of the department, aims to project the state as a tourism destination will now be held from February 5 onwards.

Anmol Gagan Maan told The Tribune that the event has been postponed on the request of Amritsar DC as another event — Shilp Samagam — is going on in Amritsar and Rangla Punjab event should be held after some time of the conclusion of the Shilp Samagam.

“Moreover, we were being pulled up by the Centre for being unresponsive to projecting the tourism potential of the state on a global platform. Punjab has not had any presence on global tourism map for the past three years. That is the reason that the Chief Minister has allowed us to participate in two of the six global tourism summits. Since the request came from the DC for postponing the Summit, we decided to go to Spain,” she said.
