Tarn Taran, January 19

BJP state president Sunil Jakhar visited Chabal village on Friday to express grief with the aggrieved family of Awan Kumar, alias Sonu Cheema, sarpanch of Adda Chabal village, who was gunned down by masked elements last Sunday.

The kin of the deceased and the people present said the incident was a political murder. They demanded that it should be investigated without any delay.

Talking to newsmen on the occasion, Jakhar said Punjab was the only state where 45,000 calls were made by inmates from their illegal mobile phones from a single jail. He said the state government was unconcerned about it. Jakhar said in reality, the state government was controlled by gangsters and anti-social elements.

He alleged that the people were getting extortion calls and the state government was the part of the nuisance. He said gangsters were hand in glove with the state machinery.

He called people to be ready to fight against alleged wrong policies of the state government. He said though the performance of the state government was poor, he was not in favour of the Governor’s rule in Punjab.
