Chandigarh, July 29

In the wake of the 2022 Assembly poll debacle, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) chief Sukhbir Singh Badal dissolved all committees and frontal organisations of the party, including the core committee, on Thursday.

Urges CM to Lodge protest with Shah

The SAD chief urged Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to lodge a protest with Home Minister Amit Shah, who will visit Chandigarh on Saturday, over Haryana’s demand for a separate land for the Vidhan Sabha in the Union Territory

No alliance with SAD, says BJP state chief

  • The state is reeling under economic duress and lawlessness, said Ashwani Sharma, BJP state party chief, while speaking on the concluding day of the “training camp” of senior party members
  • Stressing on the need to take the message of the party to every nook and corner, Sharma said it was very clear that they would not have any alliance with the SAD in 2024 General Election

The party’s core committee had authorised Sukhbir to set up the new structure as per Iqbal Singh Jhunda panel’s report, which discussed the reasons behind the loss in the elections and the need for a change in leadership.

The SAD could win only three seats in the Assembly poll and its candidate lost security deposit during Sangrur bypoll.

The Shiromani Akali Dal, however, has not made the Jhunda panel report public.

Earlier, SAD Legislature Party Manpreet Singh Ayali had rebelled against the party’s decision to vote for the NDA Presidential candidate Droupadi Murmu and had called for a change in leadership. Even SAD’s senior vice-president and core-committee member Jagmeet Singh Brar had called for the change.

Sukhbir would hold consultations with senior colleagues, workers and cadre at the grassroots for reconstitution of the party’s structure.

The party chief would reach out to various Punjabi and Panthic personalities, including intellectuals, writers, religio-political

ideologues, opinion

makers and representatives of various bodies.
