Storm causes breach in Abohar canal

Many trees were uprooted, as a thunderstorm hit the area yesterday evening. Uprooting of trees reportedly caused a breach in the sub canal between Jandwala Hanwanta and Bhangar Khera village in Abohar. Villagers today informed the administration that wheat crop on more than 100 acres and some fruit orchards having kinnow plants were inundated.

The Irrigation Department team has started work to plug the breach today. Uprooting of trees also obstructed the traffic on highways in the subdivision.

A breach in the Panjawa sub canal was prevented as farmers reached the site after the rain stopped, and removed the shrubs that had fallen in the canal.
