Sangrur, February 3

Tension gripped the area after members of various Sikh outfits converged on Kanakwal Bhanuga village gurdwara to oppose the religious discourse of Sikh preacher Ranjit Singh Dhadrianwale at Gidriani village.

A large number of police personnel were deployed. They “confined” the activists in the gurdwara till the event culminated.

Infuriated at this, Sikh organisations, including Damdami Taksal, Satkar Committee, Granthi Sabha, Panj Pardhani Satkar Sabha, Damdami Taksal Nihang Singh, Nihan Singh Jathebandi Maidewas, Sant Samaj and Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar Sabha, announced to oppose the ongoing events of the preachers that would conclude on February 5.

Bachitar Singh, president of Granthi Sabha, said, “Since Dhadrianwale has been spreading misinformation about Sikh religion, we will not allow his events here. The cops kept us in illegal confinement. We have the right to protest. We will protest again tomorrow.”

In a video on social media, Dhadrianwale said he had the permission to organise the events. “I have requested the administration to make security arrangements and all who want to listen to me should maintain peace,” he said.

Sangrur SSP Dr Sandeep Garg said they had made elaborate security arrangements to prevent any law and order situation.
