Chandigarh, June 24

Though slain singer Sidhu Moosewala’s parents have junked the police claim that Lawrence Bishnoi had plotted their son’s murder, calling the gangster “a mere pawn”, ADGP Promod Ban, who heads the Anti-Gangster Task Force, in an interview with The Tribune today, ruled out any political conspiracy.

Almost all songs of Moosewala are a comment on contemporary politics. His latest song titled ‘SYL’ too is about issues confronting Punjab, the Sikhs in particular. This has led to speculation if his killing was a political plot to silence him. The video of Moosewala’s new song, which has become a hit, shows bullet marks at Akal Takht. Also, it refers to militant Balwinder Jatana.

Moosewala joined the Congress ahead of the Assembly elections and was fielded as the party’s Mansa candidate. However, the ‘SYL’ song builds a narrative entirely different than the party’s line and policies.

“As per our investigation so far, Lawrence Bishnoi began planning Moosewala’s murder in August last year after Youth Akali Dal leader Vicky Middukhera was shot dead on May 29. Having arrested 32 members of the Bishnoi gang, we are now on the trail of four more shooters,” Ban said. He identified them as Manu Kusa of Moga, Jagroop Roopa of Amritsar, Deepak Mundi and Ankit.

The ADGP said what was alarming was that Bishnoi had arranged fake passports for his brother Anmol and aide Sachin to send them abroad before the murder. “Our investigation suggests that the two got fake passports made from Delhi and Haryana,” he added.
