Amritsar, July 13

The SGPC has taken a serious note of a book published by the Distance Education Department of Punjabi University in which Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale has been mentioned as a “terrorist”. The book is part of the syllabus of MA (Political Science).

SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami has shot off a letter to the Vice-Chancellor and the department concerned to take immediate notice of it before clarifying on the “objectionable content”.

Punjabi University Vice-Chancellor Prof Arvind said he had not received the SGPC letter yet. He, however, said, “This is not a book. These are notes of a faculty member provided to students in the Distance Education Department. I have sought a report on the matter. We will look into it and take the requisite action.”
