SGPC demands rollback of changes in Gurdwara Act

Rejecting Maharashtra’s decision to increase the number of members nominated by the government in the Takht Sri Hazur Sahib management board, the SGPC today sought rollback of the amendments to the Nanded Sikh Gurdwara Sachkhand Hazur Abchalnagar Sahib Act, 1956.

In a release issued here on Saturday, SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami said the Maharashtra Government should refrain from taking an arbitrary decision concerning the Sikh community. He termed the move as utter disregard of Sikh sentiments. He also slammed the logic given by the government that only Sikh members would be included in the board.

Dhami said the government’s explanation was misleading as the truth was that it wanted to take over the gurdwara management.

He suggested, “the Maharashtra Government should take a fresh decision after holding a meeting with the representative Sikh bodies.”
