Amritsar, January 14

Despite reminders, the Union Ministry of Home Affairs has not yet given an appointment to the SGPC panel to discuss the matter of commutation of death sentence of Balwant Singh Rajoana into life imprisonment and release of other ‘Bandi Singhs’ languishing in jails.

The Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh, after discussing the issue with the Five High Priests on December 6, had constituted a five-member panel headed by the president Harjinder Singh Dhami to take up the matter of Rajoana and other ‘Bandi Singhs’.

Dhami said that in the light of Akal Takht directions, the panel has been making serious efforts to approach the Home Minister.
