Sangrur, March 3

Demanding appointment letters, two female candidates on the waiting list of Punjab Police Recruitment-2016 for the posts of constable climbed a mobile phone tower on the Sangrur-Patiala road on Sunday.

Protesting girls — Hardeep Kaur of Abohar and Amandeep Kaur of Fazilka — raised slogans against the government and refused to climb down till their demand is met. Over 25 candidates who are on the waiting list have been staging a dharna near the mobile phone tower.

Amandeep Singh, a leader of the Waiting List Candidates’ Union, said around 500 candidates on the waiting list seek appointment letters despite the fact that document verification had already been done by the department.
