Chandigarh, February 7

Former IAS officer Satya Gopal has resigned as chairperson of the Real Estate Regulatory Authority (RERA) of Punjab. His resignation has been accepted by Governor Banwarilal Purohit.

He joined as RERA Chairman in December 2022, within nine months of the Aam Aadmi Party forming the government in Punjab. He had retired from the service in July 2022 and was then posted in the Delhi Government.

Though no official reason has been given for Satya Gopal’s resignation, he was reportedly on leave for the past some time.

Sources told The Tribune that there was an inordinate delay in getting RERA licences for many housing projects. The builders and real estate developers had taken up the matter with the highest political and bureaucratic authorities. This had led to non-payment of dues like external development charges (EDC) by realtors to the housing department.

The former bureaucrat is also under scanner of the Union Ministry of Home Affairs for having allegedly given financial benefits to two electricity distribution companies in Delhi in 2021.
