Chandigarh, February 1

Amid talks of merger with SAD, the Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa-led SAD (Sanyukt) today again raked up the issue of Badal family’s self-serving politics.

In a statement issued today, former MP from Faridkot and prominent leader of SAD (Sanyukt) Paramjit Kaur Gulshan said that Sukhbir Badal’s ‘Punjab Bachao Yatra’ is in real ‘Parivar Bachao Yatra’. The loaded statement comes amid talks of party’s merger with SAD. Last year in December, the party had formed a high-level committee to discuss the idea of returning to SAD.

Gulshan, who is patron of SAD (Sanyukt) women’s wing, said that when Sukhbir himself was the Deputy CM twice, his father Parkash Singh Badal was the CM of Punjab five times and still could not ‘save’ Punjab, so now when the people have completely rejected them, how can they talk about saving Punjab.

She said that Sukhbir had always given priority to his family over Punjab and appointed only his relatives in the Cabinet and to other high positions in the Akali government. She said now Sukhbir was creating such dramas to mislead the people to re-establish his political ground.

She said that Sukhbir had not been able to give justice to the Sikh community in the incidents of desecration of Guru Granth Sahib in the Akali government.

However, party president Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa was not available for the comments.

Significantly, after the 2019 Lok Sabha poll debacle, a group of Akali leaders, led by Dhindsa, had formed the Shiromani Akali Dal (Sanyukt).
