Chandigarh, January 22

Continuing with its efforts to form a regional front at the national level against the BJP-led NDA, a delegation of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today met Bihar CM Nitish Kumar and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav.

Urging them to unite against the NDA government, the SAD delegation led by Prem Singh Chandumajra also discussed formulating a joint strategy against the Centre in the forthcoming Budget session.

They also invited the two leaders to attend a proposed meeting of the regional parties in New Delhi in the first week of February. The meeting was planned in January but could not be held as Akali Dal patriarch Parkash Singh Badal was not well.

Earlier, the SAD delegation had met West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee, Maharashtra CM Udhav Thackeray, NCP’s Sharad Yadav and other regional party leaders.

Chandumajra said the SAD pointed out that the BJP government had stopped the rural development fund of Punjab as a punishment for the ongoing protest by farmers against the farm laws. He said the SAD has given a clarion call to the regional parties to come together for their survival.
