SAD expels Dhindsas for ‘anti-party’ activities

The SAD core committee on Monday expelled Rajya Sabha MP Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa and his MLA son Parminder Singh Dhindsa from the party.

Party spokesperson Daljit Singh Cheema said the core committee endorsed the demand of Sangrur party workers on immediate expulsion of the Dhindsas. They have been charged with “anti-party activities” and joining hands with rebel Taksali leaders, he said.

Reacting to the expulsion, Dhindsa Senior said, “I welcome the decision. I will continue my fight to save Sikh institutions from the clutches of the Badal family.” A member of the Akali Dal since 1977, he was the seniormost leader in the party after Parkash Singh Badal.

On his future plans, he said several political and other organisations were joining his crusade. “We are in the process of bringing like-minded parties and leaders, including some from the Congress, on a joint platform for the crusade.” Party president Sukhbir Singh Badal chaired the meeting. Others who attended were Jathedar Tota Singh, Gobind Singh Longowal, Hari Singh Zira, Nirmal S Kahlon, Prof Prem Singh Chandumajra, Gulzar Singh Ranike, Upinderjit Kaur, Bibi Jagir Kaur, Janmeja Singh Sekhon, Bikram Singh Majithia, Daljit Singh Cheema, Surjit Singh Rakhra and Baldev Singh Mann.
