Chandigarh, January 27

The Punjab Government has brought in the system of direct payment to farmers for produce procured by state agencies. A notification amending the Agriculture Produce Markets Rules 2020 has been issued which paves the way for direct payment to the farmers in their bank accounts by way of electronic transfer.

The arhtiyas will continue to get their commission of 2.5 per cent but will no longer be recipients of the money, as is the case now. Till now, the government had been transferring the amount due to farmers in the accounts of arhtiyas within two days of purchase who would then release payment to farmers within three days.
