Amritsar, July 11

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and his wife on Monday visited the Golden Temple here and offered prayers at the shrine. It was Mann's first visit to Amritsar after he got married to Dr Gurpreet Kaur.

Mann along with his wife, mother and sister paid obeisance at the sanctum sanctorum of the Golden Temple amid tight security arrangements.

Two Sikh priests gave "parsad" to the newlywed couple who offered "Rumala Sahib".

Mann (48), the first chief minister of the state to get married while in office, had tied the knot with Kaur from Pehowa in Kurukshetra in Haryana on July 7.

Speaking to mediapersons on the occasion, Bhagwant Mann said he was thankful to all the people who had wished him on his wedding. He also said that he has come to pray and seek blessings so that God grants him strength to fulfil the great responsibility the people of Punjab have bestowed upon him.

Talking about scrapping the Mattewara Textile Project in Ludhiana, Mann said AAP government was committed to save the forest, land and environment of the state. He said the government would develop a forest here and project the area as an eco-tourism hub.

Commenting on Congress holding a protest on the issue, he said the forest minister during the previous Congress regime is in jail over corruption issue and DFOs are also facing action over illegal felling of trees.

Mann said the APP government was determined to make a ‘Rangla’ Punjab and sought everyone’s cooperation for the same.
