Bathinda, March 5

The Bharatiya Kisan Union (Ekta-Ugrahan), BKU Dhaner and BKU Krantikari today staged a protest against the Centre for “running away” from written promises to resolve burning farmers’ issues, like the legal guarantee of MSP.

On a call against the BJP-led Centre and Haryana governments, “responsible for killing of Shubhkaran Singh” by firing bullets to “crush democratic rights” and injuring dozens of farmers, they staged a sit-in in front of the Deputy Commissioner office and protested in the city.

Addressing the gathering, BKU (Ekta-Ugrahan) state senior vice Jhanda Singh Jethuke flayed the Centre for ignoring farmers’ issues. He said the pending demands of Delhi protest, which include legal guarantee of MSP for all crops, complete debt relief and old-age pension for farmers, implementation of universal public distribution system and full justice to the heirs of Lakhimpur Kheri martyrs, must be fulfilled at the earliest.

The protesters also demanded a murder case against Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and the Union and Haryana Home Ministers for the murder of Shubhkaran Singh and the “brutal” treatment given to Preetpal Singh.

The farm leaders also issued a demand letter, seeking compensate for loss of crops and livestock due to heavy rains and hailstorms.
