Moga, March 23

A pregnant woman carrying a dead foetus died at the district hospital in Moga on Tuesday evening after doctors on duty allegedly delayed surgery.

The doctors performed an ultrasound test on Rajni Kaur, a resident of Singhawala village, and it was established the foetus was dead, said a medical officer.

Woman’s husband Angrej Singh and his mother Veer Pal Kaur alleged they urged the doctors to immediately perform surgery and save her life, but to no avail.

Veer Pal claimed her daughter-in-law was suffering from severe pain, but the doctors did not treat her properly. Later, the family and relatives staged a protest against officials of the Health Department and demanded legal action against the doctors for causing death due to negligence.

However, Dr Simrat Khosa, gynaecologist, refuted the allegations claiming the patient had normal blood pressure and did not have any history of ailment. The exact cause of death would be ascertained after the post-mortem examination tomorrow. — TNS
