Chamkaur Sahib, January 21

Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi on Friday said he is preparing to sue AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal for allegedly defaming him over the recent Enforcement Directorate raids in the state.

Interacting with the media, Channi said Kejriwal had “crossed all limits of decency” by posting his picture on the social media showing him with currency notes that were not recovered from him.

On January 18, around

Rs 10 crore was recovered by the ED during raids on multiple locations in Punjab, including those related to a Channi’s relative, as part of a money laundering probe against the “sand mafia”.

Channi alleged following the raids, Kejriwal had posted a picture on Facebook showing him with currency notes.

Channi said the money was not recovered from him or his family. “Yes, it was failure on my part that I could not keep an eye on my relatives’ deeds, still I am not responsible for any wrongdoing by people other than my family,” he said.

Alleging Kejriwal was habitual of levelling false allegations against others during poll campaigns, Channi said the Delhi CM had already tendered an apology to Nitin Gadkari, Arun Jaitley and Bikram Majithia in the past.

He claimed the AAP had put up hoardings worth Rs 200 crore across Punjab besides running campaign ads on television. Similar expenditure was being incurred by the party in the Goa and Uttarakhand polls, he said, as he questioned the source of the funds.

Sought party’s approval

The AAP leader has thrown all decency to the winds. I have sought permission from my party to sue Kejriwal. It’s not the first time that the Delhi CM has resorted to such tactics. Charanjit Channi, CM
