Chandigarh, February 16

Punjab Congress leader, led by PCC chief Amrinder Raja Warring, today staged a protest outside the BJP’s Haryana office in Sector 3 here, seeking action against Haryana Home Minister Anil Vij for ordering the use of tear gas shells on protesting farmers at Shambu on the Punjab-Haryana border.

Among those present were PCC working president Bharat Bhushan Ashu, former CM Rajinder Kaur Bhattal and former minister Balbir Sidhu, former MLAs Pawan Aadhia, Hardial Singh Kamboj and Rupinder Ruby, Punjab Youth Congress chief Mohit Mohindra and NSUI head Isherpreet Singh Sidhu, besides others.

The protesting leaders were taken into preventive custody by the Chandigarh Police before being released.

Warring said, “It is important for the Modi-led BJP government to fulfil the promises made during the initial farmers’ protest. Treating the ‘anna data’ of our nation worse than terrorists is not acceptable.” He said the suppression of a peaceful demonstration through the use of drones and firearms could not be justified.
