Chandigarh, November 26

As Congress leadership tries to mollify former Pradesh Congress Committee chief Sunil Jakhar, Navjot Singh Sidhu’s remarks aimed at his predecessor have triggered a war of words between the two. Party leaders said the wrangling would further create divisions within the Punjab Congress.

Sidhu during a meeting in Amritsar on Friday questioned his predecessor while listing the issues of sacrilege, faulty power purchase agreements and special task force’s (STF) report on drug trafficking that he had been highlighting time and again. Sidhu, however, did not name Jakhar while hitting out at him.

In reply, Jakhar took a jibe at Sidhu, referring to Akbar Allahabadi’s couplets: “Bahut hum ko kahein kaafir Allah ki marzi hai, suraj mein lage dhabba fitrat ke karishme hain…. Barkat jo nahi hoti, niyat ki kharabi hai. (Pagans calling me infidel is what Allah is willing, it’s nature’s miracle that sun has blemish…. Lack of prosperity is because intent in wrong). — TNS
