Pall of gloom descends on Banur colony; 4 of 7 who drowned in Himachal lake belonged to one family

A pall of gloom descended on Mira Shah Colony in ward number 11 of Banur town after seven youngsters of the area drowned in Gobind Sagar Lake in Una district in Himachal Pradesh on Monday.

The deceased have been identified as Vishal, Bhupinder Singh, Pawan Kumar, Raman Kumar, Lakhwinder Kumar, Labh Kumar and Yatan Kumar.

Of the seven, who died in the unfortunate incident, four belonged to one family, residents of the area said.

It has been learned that 11 youngsters of the area had gone to pay obeisance at a religious place in Una. After paying obeisance, the youngsters decided to swim in the lake. As per reports, one person was drowning in the lake and six others died while trying to save him one after the other as they too could not come out of the lake.

As per the district administration, the bodies of the victims would be brought to Banur on Tuesday morning.

Avtar, father of deceased Vishal, said, “My son was student of the class 10. He did not know how to swim. My son went along with the neighbour’s son. I am devastated.”
