Amritsar, January 15

The Border Security Force have gunned down a Pakistan intruder near the International Border here.

According to information, the suspect entered 100 metres into the Indian territory in the area under BSF’s 73 Battalion in Gurdaspur sector last evening.

Sensing threat, the troops challenged the intruder but he didn’t pay heed, prompting the personnel to open fire in self-defence, killing him on the spot. On search, nothing incriminating was recovered from the spot. This is the second such incident in the past one month. On December 17, two intruders were eliminated by the force along the Amritsar border. A cache of arms and ammunition was recovered from their possession.

The same day, two attempts of heroin smuggling from across the border were foiled near the scene. — TNS
