Amritsar, January 14

A day after the seizure of 2.5-kg RDX by the Gurdaspur police, a Special Task Force for drugs here on Friday confiscated an improvised explosive device (IED) containing 2.7-kg RDX, along with 1.36-kg iron balls. The police also recovered Rs 1 lakh Indian currency.

As per the preliminary probe, the explosive was manually extracted from near the International border and later hidden in the fields of Dhaone Kalan village near Attari-Bachinwind Road.

Border Range IG Manish Chawla said the explosives were found in three iron containers weighing around 670 gm. The IED contained six codex pieces, three electrical detonators and a digital timer. The IED was later disposed of by the bomb squad team.

Though no arrest was made in this connection, the IG said the investigation was under progress to ascertain links. He said until there was any arrest in the case, they could not say who sneaked in the explosive. He also said it was probably meant to disrupt the peaceful atmosphere in Punjab during the upcoming Assembly polls.
