Nod to 150 MBBS seats for Gian Sagar

In a major relief for MBBS aspirants, the Medical Council of India (MCI) has given nod to Gian Sagar Medical College and Hospital, run by Gian Sagar Educational and Charitable Trust, to admit 150 students in the MBBS course for the coming academic session.

A spokesman for the college management said the first batch of 150 students would be admitted to the MBBS course in the coming session.

Earlier, the college was given essentiality certificate by the Punjab Government, allowing it to start MBBS, BDS, bachelor of physiotherapy and bachelor of nursing in July last year. Admissions for 60 seats each in the bachelor of physiotherapy and nursing were made last year.

The decision to reopen the hospital was taken on the persistent demand of the people of the area. Gian Sagar Hospital caters to a number of villages in the vicinity.

The spokesman said the outpatient departments (OPDs), indoor patient departments (IPDs) and operation theatres (OTs) had already been made functional. New equipment and machines were being procured to upgrade the institution to a multi-speciality hospital.
