Gurdaspur: Shalu (28) of Bariar village in the district, who had gone to Dubai six months ago, found herself in a difficult situation after her company decided to give her the pink slip following the lockdown. She had no money and was on the brink of giving up when her colleague gave her the phone number of philanthropist Dr Surinder Pal Singh Oberoi, who has earned goodwill for his work for the welfare of immigrants. On getting a call from Shalu, Oberoi sent his Dubai-based PRO Baldeep Singh to help her. Shalu was given air tickets and now she is flying back to India on July 22 by a SpiceJet chartered plane.

Goodwill gesture
