No quota for law officers, BSP threatens protest

The Bahujan Samaj Party has announced that its leaders and workers will protest if the state government remains adamant on its stand on giving no reservation in the appointment of 178 law officers for Punjab.

State president of the party Jasvir Singh Garhi said this in reaction to the stand taken by the state government to challenge the order, of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes, in the Punjab and Haryana High Court directing it to have reservation policy in the appointment of law officers in the office of Advocate General. He said the stand taken by the state government clearly shows the “anti-Dalit attitude” of the AAP government.

Garhi maintained that the advertisement to fill the 178 posts of law officer violated the SC Act. He said the Section 4 (2) of the Punjab SCs and BCs (Reservation in Service) Act provided for 25 per cent reservation to SCs and 12 per cent to the BCs.

He said the Section 4 (7) of the Act clearly stated that the reservation policy should be applicable to all vacancies including those to be filled on ad hoc or on short-term basis.
