The National Investigation Agency (NIA) today filed a chargesheet against five persons, including ‘designated individual terrorist’ Lakhbir Singh Rode, alias Baba, and Ranjot in a case relating to cross-border smuggling of arms via drones into Punjab. Besides Rode and Ranjot, the others named in the charge-sheet are Taranjot Singh, Gurjit Singh of Gurdaspur; and Rehmat Ali, a Pakistan-based smuggler.

The chargesheet was filed today in the NIA special court, Mohali, in the case in which a cache of firearms was recovered from a cremation ground at Bagtana Boharwala village, Dera Baba Nanak, Batala, on March 24, 2023.

Investigations so far have revealed connections between members of the Khalistan Liberation Force (KLF) and individuals based in Pakistan in the case. Along with the accused charge-sheeted today, the NIA had identified Malkit Singh, aka Pistol, as also involved in the network of arms smuggling from across the border.
