New Delhi: Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) chief Harmeet Singh Kalka, who had formed Shiromani Akali Dal (Delhi State), on Saturday “released” the symbol (a wooden basket) for the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Committee elections. In March, Kalka and DSGMC general secretary Jagdeep Singh Kahlon had formed a separate party from Sukhbir Badal-led SAD. TNS

3 killed in road accidents

Abohar: Three persons lost their lives in separate road accidents. In the first incident, Kiran Kumari of Rajiv Nagar died after a motorcycle hit her on Gaushala Road. Sukhwinder Kaur, a resident of Bhangala village, succumbed to her injuries after she fell from a motorcycle. In the third incident, a bus hit the motorcycle of Praveen Kumar near Sahib Singh Wala village. OC

Two held with weapons

Barnala: The police have arrested two persons and confiscated two pistols from their possession in differenct cases. The police team arrested Kuldeep Singh near Dhauala and seized a pistol along with a cartridge of .32 bore. Another team nabbed Pargat near Mehal Kalan. Cops seized a pistol along with a live cartridge of .32 bore from Pargat. TNS

Two held for illegal mining

Abohar: Acting on a tip-off, Mining Officer Vivek Makkar, stopped a sand-laden truck near Gidderanwali village. The vehicle was illegally transporting sand from Punjab. Driver Amarinder of Chak 4MLD village and conductor Ramzan Khan of Sriganganagar were nabbed. A case has been registered. OC

350 kg of poppy husk seized

Abohar: The police have seized 350 kg of poppy husk from a four-wheeler near Seetogunno village. The driver of the vehicle reportedly managed to flee from the spot. A case was registered under the NDPS Act. Swaran Singh of Himmatpura village, who owns the vehicle, was named as the accused. OC

Man injured in firing

Abohar: Darshan Singh suffered a bullet injury on his leg as he tried to rescue Sukhwinder Singh, who was allegedly targeted by his nephew Atamjeet Singh, at Rukanpura Khuikhera village due to a land dispute. The victim was admitted to the Civil Hospital in Abohar.
