Chandigarh, February 15

To make Punjab the leading state in the field of sports, a ‘Sports Code’ has been drafted for sporting associations to help them conduct events smoothly across the state.

Punjab Sports Minister Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer said the Sports Department has drafted the Sports Code with suggestions from experts for better performance of the various sporting associations of the state, supplementing the ongoing efforts for the betterment of sports.

Hayer added a draft copy of the code has been uploaded on the department’s website to seek suggestions from sportspersons, associations and the general public before implementing the sports code.

The minister said the state government has also implemented a new policy after taking suggestions from the general public. The policy is said to have fetched good results in the Asian Games when the players from Punjab broke a 72-year-old record and bagged 20 medals. Now, the Sports Department has geared up to implement the Sports Code, which will greatly improve the management of sports in the state.
