Navjot Kaur Sidhu, wife of Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu who has been serving year-long sentence in a 1988 road rage case involving a man’s death, has penned an emotional post on behalf of her husband, saying “it just gives me immense pain to see a harmless person who has done no wrong to be punished so badly for something he has not done”.

Sidhu has been lodged in Patiala Central Jail. The former Punjab Congress chief had surrendered before a local court on May 20 after he was sentenced to one-year rigorous imprisonment by the Supreme Court.

In the Facebook post, Navjot Kaur shared a picture of Sidhu's cricketing days from a magazine cover featuring him.

She said “nothing else mattered for him, not even family time, just to play for INDIA”.

“It just gives me immense pain to see a harmless person who has done no wrong to be punished so badly for something he has not done. God is watching and definitely has a plan for you,” the post read.

Here is the complete post:

"Going through your piles of cuttings and magazines, it just crossed my mind how much love you have for your country. Nothing mattered in your life more than getting up at 4 am and rolling the pitch yourself and how your team mates in Patiala sacrificed just to see you play for India. For you nothing else mattered, not even your family time just to play for INDIA. There are hardly such stars who never give any reason for complaints, no parties, no liquor, no affairs , ….. You just loved to be in your room or house and hardly spoke to anyone, just focusing on your work, spiritually and reading books, watching religious serials. It just gives me immense pain to see a harmless person who has done no wrong to be punished so badly for something he has not done. God is watching and definitely has a plan for you. It’s just a divine game to prepare you for something greater. I just feel so helpless and want to shout before the world that you were not involved but no one is listening. But God knows. HE will help us through a good soul."
