Muktsar administration gives Rs 5 lakh relief to farmer’s kin

BKU demands job for son, debt waiver

The district administration today handed over a cheque for Rs 5 lakh to the family of Avtar Singh, 79, of Lohara village here, who had died of cardiac arrest at the Tikri border on January 12.

After getting the cheque, the family performed the last rites of the deceased. Notably, Gurbhej Singh, grandson of the deceased, had sought financial assistance of Rs 10 lakh from the district administration, citing that the family was under a huge debt.

Gurbhagat Singh Bhallaiana, general secretary, BKU (Ekta Ugrahan), said: “The administration today gave a cheque for Rs 5 lakh, promised to give another cheque for Rs 5 lakh on the day of bhog ceremony. Besides, we have demanded a government job for the kin of the deceased and a complete debt waiver. He had participated in the protest for 25 days.” The deceased is survived by his son and two daughters. — TNS
