Moga village girl tops PPSC exam

Faridkot, June 18

A 24-year-old girl from Smalsar village in Moga district, Upinderjeet Kaur Brar, has emerged as the overall topper in the Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC) examination, the results of which were declared today. She scored 59.88 per cent marks.

Abhishek Sharma, 30, came second in the state-level exam by scoring 57.80 per cent marks, while Sachin Pathak stood third with 57.76 per cent marks.

Around 50,000 candidates had appeared in the exam and 960 had qualified for the PCS-Mains. Of these, 180 candidates were shortlisted and invited for interview. The PPSC released a combined list of 174 candidates today.

Brar, who scored 898.15 marks out of 1,500, is the only child of her parents, both of whom are government schoolteachers. She studied till Class 10 at a village school affiliated with the Punjab School Education Board. She completed her 10+2 from Major Ajaib Singh Memorial School in Jeonwala village here and did her post-graduation in zoology from Panjab University, Chandigarh. She aced the exam in her first attempt.

The interviews were conducted to fill 75 posts of officer in various government departments. — TNS
