Ministers pay tributes to Sewa Singh Thikriwala on 90th martyrdom anniversary

The 90th martyrdom anniversary of Sewa Singh Thikriwala was observed today at Thikriwala village, near Barnala. On the occasion, tributes were paid to the martyr and torch-bearer of Riyasti Praja Mandal at a function by Gurmeet Singh Khudian, Agriculture Minister, Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer, Sports Minister, and others.

Today was the second day of the annual three-day function, organised to commemorate the martyrdom of Thikriwala, who sacrificed his life for the freedom of the country in a Patiala Jail nine decades ago.

Addressing the gathering, Gurmeet Singh Khudian said the state government had approved setting up of a nursing college with 240 seats at Thikriwala village. Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer announced a grant of Rs 25 lakh for the development of basic sports infrastructure at Thikriwala village.

On the occasion, both ministers were honoured by Amar Shaheed Sewa Singh Thikriwala Society. Among others who were present included Kulwant Singh Pandori, MLA, Mehal Kalan, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Satwant Singh, Gurdip Singh Bath, chairman, district planning committee, and Jagseer Aulakh, president, Amar Shaheed Sewa Singh Thikriwala Society.
