Chandigarh, July 20

The government would ramp up renewable sources to ensure the optimum use of solar energy for providing a clean and green environment to the state people, said Aman Arora, Minister for New and Renewable Energy Sources, while reviewing the projects of Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA) here today.

Chairing a high-level meeting at the PEDA Bhawan here, Arora directed officials concerned to assess the feasibility for the solarisation of agricultural pumps as many farmers had been using diesel water sets to irrigate their crops, which had been increasing the input costs and polluting the environment.

He was apprised that as many as 15,525 solar pumps had been installed in the state and a target to set up 9,000 more had been sought from the Centre for 2022-23.
