Malerkotla, March 7

The Malerkotla civil administration has announced to focus attention on empowering women by maximising voting percentage during forthcoming Lok Sabha polls for Fatehgarh Sahib and Sangrur constituencies.

Social organisations to be roped in

Besides focusing attention on sensitising women on the subject through Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation programme (SVEEP) activities, we have roped in several social organisations to organise women welfare events.— Pallavi, Malerkotla DC

The administration also claimed to have roped in social organisations to organise special sessions for women to spread awareness regarding significance of using fundamental right of voting and participating in democratic process of electioneering without any fear or allurement. Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation programme (SVEEP) activities will also be organised with the intent to sensitise women on the subject.

Addressing a meeting of senior functionaries of Malerkotla district, Amargarh and Ahmedgarh sub-division over International Women’s Day which falls on Friday, DC Pallavi said that for women, their right to cast vote would be most effective method to transform the theme of the year into reality.

“Besides focusing attention on sensitising women on the subject through SVEEP activities, we have roped in several social organisations to organise women welfare events,” said DC Pallavi adding that right to vote was the major demand of about 15,000 women who had first time rallied in New York on March 8, 1908 for seeking justice.

Responding to the call made by the office-bearers and activists of various organisations, residents organised seminars, workshops and medical check-up camps at various places in the district.

Teams of doctors led by Dr Gursimran Kaur, Dr Khyati Singla, Dr Jaspreet Chhabra, Dr Rajiv Bhakkoo and Dr Marina Dhawan briefed women on various aspects of personal hygiene, healthcare and preventive medicine.
