Chandigarh, October 20

Education and Higher Education & Languages Minister Pargat Singh termed as unfortunate the decision to keep Punjabi out of the main subjects in the datesheet of Classes X and XII released by the CBSE. He appealed to the central board to reconsider its decision.

He termed the CBSE decision to include all regional languages in minor subjects as a conspiracy to wean students away from their mother tongue. He said the step amounted to gross injustice to students of the state and was in contravention to the spirit of the Constitution. — TNS
