Ludhiana, November 24

A 60-year-old property dealer and building contractor killed four of his family members by slitting their throats with an axe at Mayur Vihar in Ludhiana on Tuesday. He met with an accident while fleeing in his car, which caught fire on Hambran road.

Rajiv Sunda had left behind a “suicide note” in which he admitted to have committed the crime and that he was ending his life. The police said prima facie it appeared Rajiv’s dispute with his sons in law was the reason behind the killings.

The deceased are Rajiv’s wife, Sunita (55), son Ashish (35), daughter-in-law Garima and grandson Saket (13).

Additional DCP-3 Sameer Verma said the accused had a scuffle with family members in the morning over some issue. Scared, Saket called his maternal grandparents and told them to reach Mayur Vihar house.

The moment Garima’s parents reached there, the accused himself opened the door. After letting them in, the accused fled in his Swift car, he added.

“Garima’s parents found the family members lying dead with throat badly slit,” said ADCP Verma, adding that the blood stained axe had been recovered from the house.

Neighbours said the accused and his family maintained no contact with them. Four days ago, the family had a big scuffle over some issue and today morning also they heard noises from the house.

In his ‘note’, Rajiv Sunda accused his son’s wife and in-laws of demanding money from him and threatening to implicate him in a fake domestic violence case, said ADCP Sameer Verma. — TNS
