Ludhiana: 10-yr-old boy killed; 2 held

Rs 1.5L ransom ‘sought’ by neighbour from family

A 10-year-old boy, Amit Kumar, son of a migrant labourer, was allegedly kidnapped and murdered by a neighbour and his accomplice.

Both victim’s family and the prime accused were living in the migrants’ ‘vehra’ (a common place) at Dhandari Khurd. The key accused was known to the family. The boy had gone missing on Wednesday, but the family informed the police about the matter on Thursday after getting a ransom call for Rs 1.5 lakh.

On the basis of the mobile number used for making the call, the police identified the key accused as Mukesh Kumar and his aide Vikas Kumar. Both have been arrested.

The two revealed to the police after the boy’s family refused to pay the ransom and informed the police about the kidnapping, they killed the boy on Thursday and threw the body in the Neelon canal on the Chandigarh road.

The boy’s mother, Poonam, said since Mukesh often used to take her son along to buy him eatables, they never doubted his intentions.
