High Court stays Faridkot MC head poll

Show comments

Chandigarh, April 6

The Punjab and Haryana High Court today directed the Faridkot DC not to issue a notice for the meeting to elect the municipal council president.

The court’s direction, which will remain in force till further orders, came on a petition filed by Mahinder Kaur and another petitioner. Their counsel Rupinder S Khosla contended the petitioners were aggrieved by the guidelines issued by a joint director. He argued that these were not issued by the competent authority.

He said one of the guidelines that the “selection of the president will be as per the reservation and of the winning numbers from the ward concerned of that category” was violative of the Article 243-T of the Constitution and also the SC judgment. — TNS
