Faridkot, May 10

The district administration has set up 30 new contact tracing teams (CTT) of the Covid cases. The members of these teams are teaching and non-teaching staff from the government schools in the district. These teams will trace minimum 30 contacts of every lab-confirmed case of Covid-19.

As all schools are closed in view of the pandemic, the teaching and non-teaching staff in the schools have been engaged in supervisory or other helpful activities in relation to Covid-19 patients, said sources in the School Education Department.

Timely detection of contacts of a positive case was the key to break the chain of transmission in the community, said Vimal Setia, Deputy Commissioner, Faridkot.

The purpose of contact tracing is to identify and classify contacts as early as possible for preventing the spread of further transmission. The decision to test some of the contacts and to quarantine others is based on risk assessment process considering factors like – proximity, duration, nature of exposure as well as other factors, said the DC.

Other than making contact tracing of the virus-affected persons, the teachers are also helpful in providing information to callers relating to Covid-19 and to carry out any other activities to be instructed by the zonal team. Teachers are also working as tele-counsellors in the Covid-19 call centres. These employees would be relieved from the Covid-19 duty as and when the situation becomes normal, said Director, School Education Department.

The director has asked district education offices to relieve these teachers from the schools and place their services at the disposal of the Deputy Commissioners till the time Covid-19 situation is over.
