Mohali, July 12

A Mohali court today dismissed the anticipatory bail application of former minister Sangat Singh Gilzian by terming the corruption charges against him of “serious nature”.

Earlier, Gilzian had approached the Punjab and Haryana High Court, which did not gave him a relief related to quashing of an FIR lodged against him.

Gilzian was named in the FIR for his alleged involvement in corruption regarding the issuance of permits for cutting of Khair trees, transfer of officials, purchases and issuance of no-objection certificates. Apart from former Forest Minister Sadhu Singh Dharamsot, Kamalpreet Singh Kamal and Chamkaur Singh were arrested by the Vigilance Bureau.

The Vigilance said contractor Harmohinder Singh had given Rs 5 lakh as a bribe to Gilzian through Kulwinder Singh for issuing a permit for cutting of khair trees at Nada village. The Range Officer, Block Officer and a guard were also bribed.
