Gangster on ‘recce’ of Punjabi singer held after police encounter in Mohali

The accused fired two gunshots on police team but was overpowered after retaliatory fire by CIA staff

The Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) of Punjab Police on Wednesday evening nabbed a member of the Kaushal Chaudhary gang after an encounter near Chappar Chirhi here.

According to officials, the accused identified as Banwari Pal, a native of Agra, was allegedly out on ‘recce’ of a Punjabi singer.

Police said the accused fired two gunshots on the police party during the chase but was overpowered after a retaliatory fire by CIA staff; which injured him in the leg.

His accomplice, however, managed to flee the spot. Meanwhile, police have recovered the bike used in the incident and a weapon from the possession of the accused.

Mohali SSP Dr Sandeep Garg said, “Banwari Pal is one of the shooters involved in a firing incident in Mahilpur, Hoshiarpur, around a fortnight ago. The suspect has been shifted to Civil Hospital, Phase 6, Mohali for treatment.”

Meanwhile, officials said they have vital leads in the case involving attack on Bunty Bains, owner of a music company related to Sidhu Moosewala, and will nab the accused soon.
