Abohar: To fulfil requirement of the Abohar Civil Hospital’s blood bank, the police organised a special camp at the City-1 police station. Chander Shekhar and Sunil Kumar, heads of City-1 and City-2 stations, were the first to donate blood. Cops of different wings, including the CID, participated in the drive. Cops decided to donate blood to meet blood requirement as highway mishaps were on the rise due to fog, the police said. Dr Puneet Saluja said blood was necessity to save mishap victims’ lives. SDM Poonam Singh and DSP Rahul Bhardwaj said the third phase of the state’s drug awareness drive was recently launched.

Artificial limbs, real help

Fatehgarh Sahib: Vishav Jagriti Mission, a non-government organisation (NGO) engaged in charitable works in Sirhind and Mandi Gobindgarh, has been holding free camps for physically challenged and needy people wherein beneficiaries are given artificial limbs besides being provided eye checkup and surgeries. Besides, its drive to encourage people for eye donation after their demise has drawn applause as over 200 people have filled such forms at the PGI. Industrialists Ashwani Garg and Ashok Bansal, NGO’s president and secretary, respectively, said treatment for hernia, gall bladder stones and appendix-related issues were also provided to the needy.

Ferozepur’s selfie point

Ferozepur: The selfie point, established by the district administration at the Town Hall, has been drawing a large number of enthusiasts. A brainchild of Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Parminder Singh Pinki, the selfie point that reads ‘I Love Ferozepur’ is frequented by people, mainly youngsters, throughout the day. People can be seen swinging around this place, flashing a wide grin as they lean against the point and uploading their pictures on social media. Pinki said the idea was to inculcate a sense of belongingness for this town amid the outflux of youths to big towns, leaving their homes and hearts here. “This point has become a symbol of hope for those who love the town,” said Tanjeet Bedi, a local doctor. Gazalpreet Singh, a teacher at an engineering college, said, “I hope this point becomes a rallying point for the residents to take a pledge to keep the city clean.”

Educationist HR Gandhar

Educationist’s new role

Abohar: Educationist HR Gandhar’s recent election as vice president of the DAV Managing Committee that manages over 900 educational institutions across the country has left people elated in the region. Gandhar belongs to the 1965 batch of teachers of DAV College in Abohar. Gandhar taught chemistry here till 1982. He also served Panjab University as member of its senate and syndicate. He served as principal in DAV colleges at Neola and Cheeka in Haryana.

At Abohar, he served for 13 years till his superannuation in January 2002. Since then, he has been assisting the DAV Managing Committee.

Setting example

Bathinda: Finance Minister Manpreet Badal sticks to his government orders regarding prohibition of names on foundation stones wherever he goes for inaugural functions in his constituency. On Saturday, he dedicated the Shooting Range of the Bathinda District Rifle Association to the sportspersons and people. The inaugural plaque didn’t carry any dignitary’s name.
