Five persons have been booked for illegal sand mining in the border district. Acting on tip-off, the mining department carried out a raid and three trucks laden with sand were intercepted outside a “dhaba” near Arif Ke village.

Arif Ke police station SHO Jaswinder Singh said the accused Gurjant Singh and Rai Singh were residents of Ganganagar district in Rajasthan. He said the driver managed to give a slip to the police. “The accused were using fake receipts which did not match with the record of the mining department,” said the SHO.

Later, a case under various sections of the IPC and 21 of the Mining and Mineral Development and Regulation Act, 1957, was registered against the accused at Arif ke police station. Besides the erring drivers, the police also booked the owners of the seized trucks. — OC
