Chandigarh, January 2

Punjab Governor Banwarilal Purohit on Sunday said CM Charanjit Singh Channi’s claim that he was deliberately stalling regularisation of 36,000 employees was “factually incorrect.” A statement issued by the Punjab Raj Bhawan said the file concerned had been sent back to the CMO with six queries for clarification. “This file was duly received by the CMO on December 31, 2021, and the reply to the queries is awaited... Once the reply comes, the Bill will be re-examined at the Governor’s Secretariat,” the Governor said.

The Bill on regularising the services of contractual employees was passed by the Punjab Assembly on November 11, 2021, and the file sent to Raj Bhawan on December 1, 2021. The Governor, who was visiting various districts of the state, concluded his tour on December 21. Thereafter, CM Channi met him on December 23. “The file was duly studied and reverted with observation/queries to the CMO on December 31, 2021,” the Raj Bhawan statement read. — TNS
